Audi's traffic light sensor to relieve you from traffic stress

Driving in chaotic traffic of metro cities is not easy, especially for those who own a luxury car, as their enjoyment of owning a special car gets hurt while stuck in a jam. This, however, will change with the new variant of Audi, which is updating its embedded traffic light-reading technology to help you catch green lights with more precision, said The Verge report.

Terming the new feature as "Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory", or GLOSA, Audi cars will tell drivers how to moderate their speed to minimize red light stops, said the report adding that some 2017 and 2018 Audi models had built-in vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology that allowed them to get information from a centralized traffic light management system through the car’s built-in 4G LTE hot spot. 

According to the tech website, a sensor installed in the traffic light would “talk” to the car and tell it how much time is left before a red light would turn green.

With this technology, Audi owners will reportedly be facilitated to use traffic signal information and the current position of the vehicle, and he would be able to see a speed recommendation displayed on the screen behind the steering wheel. 

The Audi driver would be able to get speed recommendation as the gadget would calculate the distance to stop, the speed limit for a geographic area, and the timing for a specific traffic signal, it said.

Audi reportedly stated that the GLOSA feature is designed to help reduce the stress while the vehicle is stuck in a traffic jam.

Notably, the luxury carmaker first released the technology in 2016 in Las Vegas, and now has spread to 4,700 intersections in cities, including Dallas, Denver, Gainesville, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington, DC and northern Virginia.
