Is the Jeep Compass ready to take on Mahindra XUV 500, Tata Hexa, Hyundai Tucson, Renault Duster?
The Jeep Compass is priced very closely to the Mahindra XUV 500 and Tata Motors Hexa. It also can be compared to the Hyundai Tucson and Renault Duster.

The Jeep Compass finally was launched in India on Monday by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). The much awaited SUV was introduced at a very competitive price of Rs 14.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base variant and went up to Rs 20.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the top end variant.
At this price the Jeep Compass competes with several other SUVs such as the Renault Duster, Tata Hexa, Mahindra XUV 500 and Hyundai Tucson.
While the Mahindra XUV 500 is priced between Rs 12.19 lakh to Rs 17.07 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Hexa is priced between Rs 10.95 lakh to Rs 16.13 lakh (ex-showroom), Renault Duster priced between Rs 8.29 lakh and Rs 13.46 lakh (ex-showroom) and Hyundai Tucson priced at Rs 18.13 lakh to Rs 23.86 lakh (ex-showroom).
Though some of the SUVs may be priced a bit lower in comparison to the Jeep Compass, the only way to see if the car is worth it is by taking a look at its specifications.
While the Renault Duster is priced much cheaper than the Jeep Compass, the Hyundai Tucson is a bit the steeper price in comparison with the Jeep Compass.
The Mahindra XUV 500 W8 variant, which is just below the top-variant, is priced between Rs 15.11 lakh to Rs 15.18 lakh (ex-showroom) can take on the Jeep Compass' base variant the Sport. The Jeep Compass Sport variant can also be pitted against the Tata Hexa XMA variant which is priced at Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Jeep Compass Limited priced at Rs 18.05 lakh (ex-showroom) can go against the Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Dual VTVT 2WD MT variant which is priced at Rs 18.13 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Jeep Compass comes with two engine options – a 2.0-litre MultiJet Turbo Diesel engine which dishes out 173 PS and torque of 350 Nm and a 1.4 Multi-Air Turbo Petrol engine with gives out power of 162 PS and torque of 250 Nm.
Besides this the Jeep Compass Sport is available in two-wheel drive (4x2) only.
It also has a 5.0 inch U-Connect infotainment system. In terms of safety it comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and traction control.
The Jeep Compass Sport variant comes with 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, Power adjust and folding wing mirrors, four-wheel disc brakes and an electric parking brake.
The XUV 500 W8 variant comes with a 2.0 petrol engine which give a displacement of 1999 cc and power of 153BHP and torque of 193Nm. This is a little lower comparison to the Jeep Compass Sport.
The Tata Hexa XMA variant comes with a 2.2 litre Varicor 400 engine which dishes out a power of 154BHP and torque of 400 Nm.
The Hyundai Tucson comes with a R 2.0 CRDi diesel engine that is capable of a maximum power of 185PS, which is much higher than the Jeep Compass.
The top-most variant of the Renault Duster the RXZ AWD comes with a 1.5 litre DCi THP Diesel Engine which gives out a power of 110PS and 245Nm torque. While this is lower in comparison to the Jeep Compass Sport it is available for a cheaper price of Rs 13.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
Besides the engine, the Jeep Compass comes with 16-inch alloy wheels. However, the Tata Hexa has 19-inch alloy wheels, Mahindra XUV 500 17-inch alloy wheels, Renault Duster has 16-inch alloy wheels and Hyundai Tucson has 16-inch alloy wheels.
While the Jeep Compass Sport has an in-built 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Tata Hexa has a ConnectNext infotainment system supported by Harman featuring a 6-inch display screen. It however does not support Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto like in the Jeep Compass system.
However, Mahindra XUV 500 W8 variant comes with a 7-inch infotainment system that supports Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto. Similarly, the Hyundai Tucson comes with an 8 inch touch screen smart infotainment system with voice recognition, Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
With very little difference in comparison to its competitors, the Jeep Compass may find it tough in the market. The other cars come pretty close to it in terms of its engine and the interior features too are similar.
The only thing riding with the Jeep Compass is its name Jeep comes with familarity and trust in India due to its dexterity. It also has a good refreshing look which comes close to the Jeep Cherokee, which is much more expensive.
