Maruti Suzuki's 2nd Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing gets accreditation from METI, Japan
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), has granted a certificate of accreditation to Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Uncha Majra, Gurugram, Haryana. This 2nd JIM by Maruti Suzuki will train over 500 youth annually and is expected to begin operations in second quarter of FY 2019-20. Maruti Suzuki’s first JIM, also METI accredited, is operational at Mehsana Gujarat, since 2017. The first batch from JIM Mehsana, received 100% placement last year.
Akimasa Ishikawa, Vice Minister, METI, Raj Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Tokyo, handed over the certificate to Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Officer, Global Automobile Marketing, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, at a ceremony held at METI office in Tokyo.
Commenting on the grant of certificate of accreditation, AK Tomer, Executive Advisor, Corporate Social Responsibility, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Receiving accreditation from METI, for our second JIM, is a matter of great honour for us. We are thankful to both Indian and Japanese Government for their trust and belief in us. We are fully committed to Government of India’s Skill Development initiative and continuously work towards enhancing the skill and knowledge of youth making them industry ready.”
“The work is on full-swing and as per the timelines. We expect the institute to be operational in this academic year. We will start the admission process in the coming weeks,” AK Tomer added while talking about readiness of JIM Uncha Majra.
What is JIM initiative?
Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) is born out of a collaboration between the Governments of Japan and India to create a pool of skilled manpower for manufacturing in India.

The institute will be Haryana’s first ever Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM). It is spread over 5 acres and will house 18 classrooms and 8 practical workshops. Students can enroll to anyone of the 8 courses offered by the institute. The company is investing Rs 7 crore to establish the model ITI.
