After car recalls, Maruti Suzuki's production hit by fire at vendor factory
The company said MSI and Subros are jointly assessing the extent of damage to essential equipment.
The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Monday announced temporary suspension of production following fire at the factory of its component supplier Subros Ltd.
The fire on Sunday at the Manesar facilities of Subros Ltd, which provides air-conditioning compressors to Maruti Suzuki, has led to disruption of supplies.
"As a consequence, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will have to temporarily suspend manufacture of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon, starting second half Monday (May 30)," MSI said in a statement.
The company said MSI and Subros are jointly assessing the extent of damage to essential equipment.
"We are also examining the options available to start supply of components from other facilities. Production will resume as soon as components become available," the company said without sharing a timeline for ending the temporary suspension of production.
On Sunday a major fire broke at the Manesar plant of Subros which took more than three hours to douse. There were no reports of casualty.
On an average MSI produces around 5,000 units a day from its two plants at Gurgaon and Manesar, which together have an annually capacity of rolling out 15 lakh units.
