BSNL offers 1500GB FUP per month, set to give sleepless nights to private operators

After telecom sector, it appears that new war will take place over broadband space, as the state-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is striving hard to dominate Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) through its new plans. The BSNL is reportedly planning to offer 100 Mbps of speed in select circles across the country, especially in Chennai. The state-run telco has already made some changes to its Rs 4,999 FTTH plan, said a Telcomtalk report.

According to report, changes introduced to the FTTH plans in Chennai circle may bump up the FUP to 1500GB at 100Mbps. Post the completion of FUP limit, the users will reportedly be able to use internet at 2 Mbps, sufficient for streaming videos and browsing social media. The usual data FUP and unlimited internet, users will have the added benefit of one free email ID, coming with 5MB free space, and the BSNL will also provide the users with one free static IP address, the report said.

The plan will also give free calls within BSNL network, and for calls made within the network will be covered under allotted free calls quota, thereby taking no additional charges, Telecomtalk said.

The BSNL has also planned to offer five other FTTH plans, starting from Rs 999 to Rs Rs 2999, besides Rs 4,999 FTTH, which is the premium plan. The state- run telco has reportedly revised all these tariff plans with better data benefit and higher FUP. 

According to the report, Rs 999 FTTH broadband in Chennai offers up to 60 Mbps of broadband connection and 250GB of FUP, while Rs 1299, Rs 1699, Rs 1999 and Rs 2999 broadband plans provide up to 80 Mbps download and upload speed. However, the FUP is different with each plan.

Rs 1299 plan comes with 400GB FUP, followed by Rs 1699 plan with 550GB FUP, while Rs 1999 and Rs 2999 plans offer 800GB and 900GB FUP limit per month respectively. All these plans by the BSNL offer FUP speed of 2 Mbps.
