Domestic airlines see a 23% growth in passenger traffic during 2016
Month on month domestic passenger growth has increased to 79.75 lakh passengers in 2016 as against 66.01 passengers in 2015, which is a 20.81% growth.
The passengers travelling by domestic airlines grew during January to June 2016 increased by 22.5% over the same period last year. Domestic airlines carried 475.79 lakh passengers January to June this year in comparison to 388.33 lakh passengers in the same period the previous year, according to a report by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

While government owned airline Air India registered 37.84 lakh passengers and passengers in private players grew to 402.57 lakh passengers.
The passenger growth of Air India has been 12.73%, while of private carriers has been 24.49% in comparison to the same period last year.
The passenger load factor of most airlines had declined from May to June. Only AirAsia India, Air Pegasus and Trujet saw a minor increase in their passenger load. The reason for this is the end of the tourist season, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Trujet had the highest flight cancellation rate in June 2016, followed by Air Pegasus and Air Asia India. While Trujet had a cancellation rate of 21.73%, Air Pegasus rate was 19.33% and Air Asia India at 10%. Air India's domestic cancellations on the other hand was a low 1.08%.

However, Air India had the highest number of customer complaints registered against it during June 2016. During June 2016, a total of 788 passenger related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of June 2016 has been 1.0.

Customer service topped the reason for the complaints against domestic airlines, followed by flight problems and loss of baggage.
Vistara flights were the most on time during June 2016, followed by IndiGo and Jet Airways and Jet Lite. The on-time performance (OTP) of Vistara was 86.5%, followed by IndiGo at 83.3% and Jet Airways at 81.1%. The OTP of scheduled domestic airlines has been computed for four metro airports viz. Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Jet Airways earned the highest percentage of revenue in the highest fare bucket at 6.18% in June from 3.93% in May from its Delhi to Leh airport flights.
