L&T bags contract to convert Nagpur into a 'Smart City'

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), on Tuesday, said that the company has bagged the contract to convert Nagpur into India's first large-scale integrated Smart City.
The company said, "The scope of work in phase one for L&T’s smart world communications business vertical – a part of L&T construction will cover laying of 1200 km of optical fiber network backbone, developing 136 city wifi hotspots at key locations."
Also the company will establish 100 digital interactive booth and building city surveillance system with 3800 IP cameras.

Subrmanyan elaborated, “As a master systems integrator, we will provide leading edge technology solutions including high end analytics, mobile surveillance and high-tech tools like drones.”
Furthermore, as an experimental measure, the city has identified a strip of approximately 6 kilo meters which will be created as ‘Smart Strip’ with state-of-art systems powered by smart ICT interventions like smart transport, solid waste management.
Information and communication technology (ICT) services is growing rapidly in India, which has led the country to be the highest globally of Global innovation index (GII) 2016 data.
This project is in line with the government’s vision to use vanguard technology for creating smart solution for India citizens.
Vijay Kumar Gautam, Principal secretary government of Maharashtra said, " The Nagpur smart city project is a major milestone for the government of Maharashtra, ‘smart strip’ will be a new and exciting concept initiated for the first time in India.”
The share price of Larsen & Toubro surged by Rs 13.75 or 0.92% to Rs 1502.15 at 11.33 am. It’s stock opened at Rs 1491.20 higher from its previous closing of Rs 1488.40.
Nearly 54,000 shares have been exchanged by the investors on BSE index.
