Maruti Suzuki’s compact cars push sales growth to 11% in September
This growth in the passenger car segment was mainly due to the huge 44.7% growth of the compact segment of Maruti Suzuki.

Leading car manufacturer in India, Maruti Suzuki, reported a 10.3% growth in total domestic sales during the month of September. The passenger car sales of the company grew by a robust 11.1% as it sold 1,16,886 units in September 2017 in comparison with 1,05,236 units sold in the same month last year.
This growth in the passenger car segment was mainly due to the huge 44.7% growth of the compact segment of Maruti Suzuki. This includes cars such as Swift, Ritz, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S.
The compact segment sales of the company grew to 72,804 units in September 2017 from 50,324 units sold in September 2016.
However, the mini and the mid-size passenger cars segment disappointed the company as they reported a decline in sales during the month of September.
The mid-size sedan Ciaz saw a 14.4% decline in sales in September as it sold 5,603 units of September 2017 from 6,544 units sold in September 2016.
The mini segment, which comprises of Alto and WagonR, saw a 13.3% decline in sales 38,479 units in September 2017 and 44,395 units in September 2016.
Its utility vehicles (UV) segment, comprising of vehicles such as the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza, too saw a good 8% growth during the month as it sold 19,900 units versus 18,423 units sold in the same month last year.
Maruti Suzuki’s van segment however grew by just 0.9% as it sold 13,735 units in September 2017 as compared to 13,618 units sold in September 2016.
Total exports declined by 1.3% as it sold 11,671 units and 11,822 units in same month last year.
