Will Amazon Prime Video pricing be enough to win against Netflix?
Amazon Prime Video price is very well placed to take on Netflix. But will that be enough to challenge the king of content?
Amazon's launch of its Prime Video services at an attractive launch price of Rs 499 annual membership will give competitors in the online movies and series streaming companies a run for their money. The company has clubbed its video services with its Prime services, which offers premium delivery options apart from other benefits.
The Rs 499 a year means that it available at a very marginal rate of Rs 41.50 per month. This considering it is offering its original shows, apart from a wide variety of movies it has attained the rights for. Apart from this, it will investing heavily in creating its original content in India as well as partnering with other top content creators in the country.
The price of Amazon Prime Video means that the company is ready to take on Netflix.
Netflix which launched in India in January this year went with a monthly model. The basic package which it offered was Rs 500 per month, which allows users to watch only from one screen, but offered unlimited movies and TV shows, cancel anytime option and one free month.
The standard package of Netflix offered the same option with the difference of watching from 2 screens and is available in HD. The price of it is Rs 650.
The premium package came at a price of Rs 800 and offered in addition Ultra HD viewing option and a users can watch from 4 screens simultaneously.
Currently, Amazon Prime Video can be watched currently can be watched on 3 devices simultaneously and is available for viewing in HDR. Subscribers can also watch unlimited movies and TV shows which is available in its library.
While Amazon Prime Video may win in terms of the pricing and the options available to subscribers, it however does not have some of the Netflix originals such as Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black,
House of Cards, etc. Netflix has been in the content creation business much longer. Users might miss out on these shows.
Amazon Prime Video, which has recently entered the content creation business, has a few original shows which standout and are popular. Some of the shows include The Grand Tour, Mozart in the Jungle, The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, etc.
