Beware! See this in ATM machine while inserting debit card, else fraudsters may ooze out your money
Fraudsters are multi-cloning your plastic money and doing transaction at more than one place in one point of time — giving you very little time to block your card.
Gone are the days when a debit card fraudster would clone your debit or credit card at ATM or shopping centre by using a skimming device. Now, the fraudsters are multi-cloning your plastic money and doing transaction at more than one place in one point of time — giving you very little time to block your card.
Speaking on the matter Pavan Duggal , cyber law expert, told Zee Business online, "Fraudsters do the multi-cloning of your debit or credit card by using skimming device at software levels where they are allowed to fish out or skim-out your account data. It helps them clone your card and use it at various places at one time."
Skimming is the most common fraud which is emerging in the majority of the ATM or debit card fraud. The offenders put an additional device which is looks like the space where you insert your debit card. This skimming device has a camera fitted inside it and hence they take photographs of your ATM, which contains entire details of your ATM card. Then after, when you put your PIN during the transaction, they also capture that and hence the fraudsters get all information that a cardholder needs to do an ATM transaction.
Duggal added that skimming devices can be used at Point of Sale (PoS) machine too. So, make sure that your ATM or credit card is not cloned while doing any transaction and the best way to avoid is to keep your PIN to your chest.
On what could be the possible major that a card holder can take to avoid multi-cloning of their ATM or credit card, Duggal said, "Here government of India can do one thing. They need to amend the Information Technology Act as the current law doesn't allow any crackdown of such offenders before the crime."
