Big relief on these workers pay! Set to get Rs 52,000 crore via DBT over Coronavirus crisis
Ministry of Labour and Employment issued an advisory to all states and the Union Territories to use cess fund for the welfare of the unorganised construction workers via DBT.
Coronavirus: In the backdrop of the outbreak of COVID-19, numerous measures are being taken by the Government to give relief to workers. To support unorganized construction workers who sustain their livelihood on daily wages, the Ministry of Labour and Employment issued an advisory to all states and the Union Territories to use cess fund for the welfare of the unorganised construction workers via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
Announcing about the decision in a written press statement issued yesterday the Ministry of Labour & Employment said, "In the advisory, under Section 60 of the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996 all State Governments/UTs have been advised to transfer funds in the account of construction workers through DBT mode from the Cess fund collected by the Labour Welfare Boards under the BOCW cess Act. About Rs 52,000 crore is available as cess fund and about 3.5 crore construction workers are registered with these Construction welfare Boards."

This advisory is going to become a big relief for the unorganised construction workers as they have lost their livelihood due to the non-continuance of construction work during the lockdown. Various state governments are taking several measures to address this livelihood woe of the unorganised workers and the Central Government's advisory to sue Cess Fund for unorganised construction workers would definitely make them feel happy.
