Car sales in India dropped 11.21% in the month of June 2017, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data show.
SIAM said that passenger car sales in the month of June 2017 stood at 1,36,895 units as against 1,54,237 units in the same month of last year registering a drop of 11.24%. Utility vehicles (UV) and vans saw a sales drop of 11.25% and 10.72% at 49, 547 units and 11,957 units, respectively.
Production, however, rose 6.35% in June as against the same month of last year, at 2,94,115 units. SIAM data show that the country produced 2,202,460 passenger cars in June 2017 as against 1,94,453 units. The shortfall in car sales domestically was made up in exports that rose 14.11%, at 46,691 units as against 40,919 units in June of 2016.
Total exports in June 2016 rose 16.11% with UVs registering growth of 22.13%, at 15,246 units versus 12,483 units.
Commercial vehicles had a difficult month as production and sales dropped 20.76% and 6.54%, respectively.
SIAM data show that passenger carrier and goods carrier production in June 2017 dropped to 3,691 units and 19,751 units as against 4,444 units and 25,140 units in June 2016, respectively.
Two-wheeler production rose 6.88%, at 18,22,129 units as against 17,04,888 units. Sales, however, rose only 4%, at 15,27,049 units while exports rose 4.27%, at 2,00438 units.
