In a drive against touts, Central Railway found a few unauthorised software related to e-tickets being operated, which allowed unauthorised agents to bypass normal queues and thereby make illegal gains. The persons concerned benefitted by getting confirmed reservations by bypassing the system. According to a media statement, a malicious software was being used for this purpose however, its main operator was located by authorities concerned through source information. Vigorous surveillance was kept, further information in this regard was collected, verified, and the person behind this software was fially identified. Thereafter, a joint action team comprising Vigilance, RPF, IRCTC and Mumbai Division's Commercial branch managed to nab the kingpin.
In a preventive check conducted on May 2 by the Vigilance team along with RPF Crime Intelligence Branch/PNVL & Anti-Tout Squad CSMT at Oshiwara, Jogeshwari West, Mumbai, the kingpin of this racket was nabbed and his laptop confiscated. The team seized a software server and also recovered 80 E-tickets amounting Rs 1,04,465 from the tout's possession. A case was registered against him at RPF/Byculla under the Railways Act, a press statement said.
On May 3, the software server and system was deeply screened and 6603 PNRs with tickets amounting to Rs 1,47,14,850 were detected. These PNRs have been seized in the PRS system. Meanwhile, investigation is being conducted to identify other persons behind this software and ascertain their modus operandi.
According to the statement, the names of passengers whose tickets have been seized will not appear in the chart after preparation. Central Railway has requested passengers not to buy tickets from unauthorised sources/means.

They have also been asked to buy tickets from IRCTC website, Reservation Offices at railway stations and authorised sources only to avoid unpleasant surprises that also includes forfeiting of tickets.
