Central Railway trains to hit mega block on Sunday; check timing here

There will be a mega block on Central Railways this Sunday for work on Parel terminus. The mega block will be from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. Slow trains leaving CSMT will be diverted to fast tracks between Byculla and Matunga.

Parel station is likely to remain crowded for a few more days, although the new platform and rail line will be ready by this Sunday. This is because the foot-over bridge connecting Elphinstone Road with the new platform at Parel is still under construction. The new platform does not allow commuters to go to the west side as the new FOB remains incomplete. Once ready, Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board, is likely to inspect it on June 18.

The CR authorities will be connecting platform one and two to the new one (platform 1A), which is coming up next to platform one. There will be three mini bridges that will connect the two platforms. This will help commuters to move to the existing platforms, and then proceed to the FOB and go to the west side.

A new 12 metre-wide FOB is being built to cross over to the east, but that won’t be available until the Western Railways completes work on connecting the other FOB to the west. Western Railway officials said the new FOB will be ready by June end.

Central Railway authorities are laying new tracks and creating a terminal for trains to terminate. The existing line next to platform one will be cut short and turned into a terminus. Thane/Kalyan bound trains will ply on these tracks.

“The decision on whether to run more services from Parel will be taken once the entire terminus is ready,” said SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Central Railway.

The possible deadline to construct the Rs 51-crore Parel terminus is March 2019. However, sources said that they are looking at completing it by December this year.
