DGCA issues safety guidelines for monsoon season

India`s aviation regulator has issued air safety guidelines to domestic airlines concerning operations during the monsoon season. The development comes after recent incidents of aircraft veering-off or overshooting runways due to heavy rains. Accordingly, through Tuesday`s air safety circular, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) advised the airlines to have a stabilised landing approach among other guidelines to be followed during the monsoon season. 

On June 30, as many as 183 passengers aboard an Air India Express flight had a narrow escape when the aircraft that arrived from Dubai veered off the taxiway after landing at the Mangaluru International Airport. "AI Express aircraft VT-AYA, operating IX 384, Dubai to Mangalore on June 30, after landing on runway 24 while vacating the runway to the right side has gone off the taxiway into soft ground," the airline had said.
