Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India has grown over 7% in June this year.
According to the Ministry of Tourism's monthly estimates data, the country's foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) rose 7.4% to 5.50 lakh in June 2016 as against 5.12 lakh in June 2015, said the Ministry of Culture in a statement on Monday.
During the period from January to June 2016 around 41.86 lakh foreign tourist arrived in India as compared to 38.45 lakh arrived in the same period of last year. This has resulted in a growth of 8.9% in foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in the country during the first six months of 2016.
The arrival of foreign tourist during June month was highest from USA (22.20%), followed by Bangladesh (20.69%), United Kingdom (6.84%), Malaysia (3.90%), Sri Lanka (3.20%), cited the statement. The rest of the tourist came from countries such as China, Canada, Japan, Singapore, France, Germany, Nepal, Pakistan and Republic of Korea.
In June 2016, the Delhi Airport witnessed the largest share of foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) at 24.69% .
Among other top airports for foreign tourist arrivals during the month were Mumbai Airport (16.76%), Haridaspur Land Check Post (11.99%),Chennai Airport (10.90%), Bengaluru Airport (7.74%) and Hyderabad Airport (4.95%).
As far as foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) is concerned, India earned about Rs 10,732 crore in June 2016 as compared to Rs 9,564 croe in the corresponding period of last year.
"Foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) in US dollar terms during the month of June, 2016 were $1.595 billion as compared to exchange earnings of $1.498 billion during the month of June, 2015 and $ 1.470 billion in June, 2014," stated the Ministry of Culture in a statement.
The foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) from tourism sector in US dollar terms during January to June 2016 was $10.865 billion with a growth of 6.5% as compared to $10.203 billion during the same period of last year.
