From Yeddyurappa's swearing-in as Karnataka CM to SC order, here are top 10 developments

After an overnight legal battle in the Supreme Court, BJP legislature party leader 75-year-old BS Yeddyurappa was today sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka for a third time. The apex court refused to stay the swearing-in of Yeddyurappa.
 
1-The Lingayat strongman Yeddyurappa was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Vajubhai Vala at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan amid loud cheering by his supporters. He was administered the oath alone, hours after the Supreme Court refused to stay his swearing-in.
 
2-In a post-midnight courtroom battle, the Congress-JD(S) combine strived hard to stall the government formation by Yeddyurappa.
 
3-A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices A K Sikri, S A Bobde and Ashok Bhushan was specially convened at "odd hours" to hear the petition challenging the Governor Vajubhai Vala's communication to Yeddyurappa to be sworn in as CM.
 
4-The apex court bench noted that it is necessary to peruse the letters dated May 15 and May 16 submitted by Yeddyurappa to Governor for claiming stake for government formation, requesting Attorney General K K Venugopal to produce these letters on next hearing tomorrow at 10.30 am.
 
5-The bench made it clear that its order allowing swearing-in and government formation by the BJP in Karnataka is subject to the outcome of the case before it.
 
6-The court also issued notices to the Karnataka government and Yeddyurappa as it was clarified by senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi that he was appearing for three BJP MLAs including Govind M Karjol, C M Udasi and Basavaraj Bommai. 
 
7-Yeddyurappa has 15 days to prove his majority in the Assembly. The BJP has 104 MLAs in the House, eight short of the magic figure of 112.
 
8-Polling took place in 222 constituencies of the Karnataka's 224 assembly seats. Election to the Jayanagar seat was countermanded following the death of the BJP candidate, and polling for R R Nagar seat has been has deferred to May 28 to alleged electoral malpractices. 
 
9- A hardboiled RSS Swayamsevak, 75-year-old Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa, joined the Hindu right organisation when he was barely 15, and cut his political teeth in the Jana Sangh, the BJP's forerunner, in his hometown Shikaripura in Shivamogga district.

10- Currently a Lok Sabha member from Shivamogga, Yeddyurappa was first elected to the Legislative Assembly from Shikaripura in 1983 and went on to win it five more times. A Bachelor of Arts, Yeddurappa is known to have espoused the cause of farmers, something which was repeatedly referred to by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his election speeches.
