Indian Railways bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad gets big BKC Metro boost

Two Metro corridors coming up in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) will be integrated with the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train terminal. The Metro corridors to be integrated are DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor and Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor. While the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) had earlier said that it was exploring integrating the Metro-3 corridor, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had said that it would integrate the Metro-2B corridor.

This integration, in terms of Metro-2B corridor, might be with the help of a bridge considering that the said corridor is an elevated one that will be connected with the entry and exit of the bullet train terminal. In case of Metro-3, it could be with the help of an underground subway. UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said: “Considering the bullet train terminal is also now coming up in BKC and there are also two Metro corridors there, it will be certainly integrated with each other. It actually makes sense to integrate as it would allow free and seamless movement of commuters.”

This integration would also mean that commuters going or coming from south Mumbai or eastern and western suburbs can use the bridge of Metro-2B or subway of Metro-3 to head towards the bullet train terminal.

Officials from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) executing the bullet train project also confirmed that talks are on for integrating the bullet train terminal with two Metro corridors, and the plan would be conceptualised after talks conclude.
