Indian Railways: Now, enjoy free WiFi at 18 railway stations of this heritage line
RailTel Corporation, a Mini Ratna CPSU under the Ministry of Railways, has turned all the railway stations on this Heritage section into Free Wi-Fi zone.
In a major boost to internet connectivity, Indian Railways has provided free Wi-Fi at around 746 railway stations so far and aims to provide the internet facility at around 2,000 stations as soon as possible. Indian Railways have launched a number of initiatives including introducing Vistadome coach with a glass ceiling which enables passengers to enjoy the breath-taking Himalayan beauty while travelling on the Kalka Shimla Heritage rail line. Now, the public transporter has now equipped all railway station of the heritage line with free WiFi. Free Wi-Fi at every stop of the train in this route will help the passengers stay connected to the internet while waiting for the train.

"There are total 18 stations in this line of which Shimla, Solan and Kalka stations were live with Wi-Fi earlier. Now the rest of the 15 stations (Barog, Dharampur Himachal, Gumman, Koti, Kumarhatti Dagshai, Sonwara, Taksal, Kandaghat, Salogra, Knoh, Kathleghat, Shoghi, Tara Devi, Jutogh, Summerhill) have been made live with RailWire Wi-Fi by RailTel," the Indian Railways said in a statement.

The 96.60 km long Kalka Shimla Rail line is a UNESCO World Heritage site as a part of Mountain Railways of India.
RailTel started providing high-speed Wi-Fi service at railway stations and has successfully completed work of providing high-speed Wi-Fi at 746 stations across India with 8+ million users per month. This is one of the largest and fastest public Wi-Fi networks of the world.
Wi-Fi services to passengers are being provided under ‘RailWire’- the retail Broadband initiative of RailTel. The RailWire Wi-Fi will be available to any user who has a smartphone with a working mobile connection for KYC considerations.
