Indian Railways: Rail connectivity boost for Uttar Pradesh - CCEA nod for new lines
Tthe Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved new lines between Sahjanwa and Dohrighat; and Allahabad and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
In a major boost in rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved new lines between Sahjanwa and Dohrighat; and Allahabad and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction. CCEA approved construction of 81.17 Km new railway line between Sahjanwa and Dohrighat at cost of Rs 1319.75 crore, said a Ministry of Railways statement.
After completion of this line, this will act as an alternate route connecting Chhapra to Lucknow, helping avoid congestion at Gorakhpur. This line lies mostly in Gorakhpur district and a very small area in Mau district. The statement said that the project will generate direct employment of about 19.48 lakh man-days during the construction. The project will be completed by 2023-24.

Cabinet also approved the construction of 150-km 3rd railway line between Allahabad and Mughalsarai (now DeenDayal Upadhyaya Jn). This line will help cope up with the future traffic, and easing capacity constraints. The project will enhance capacity and ease traffic congestion at Chheoki, and Naini Project. The total estimated cost of this project is Rs 2649.44 crore and will be completed by 2023-24, said the statement.

These two railway projects are expected to ease traffic on two busy lines in the state.
