IRCTC offers heritage trip priced at just Rs 10: Here is what you get

If you have been planning a heritage trip, IRCTC might have the perfect deal. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is offering a historic experience aboard Railways' heritage train at a nominal fare of just Rs 10. The train has been hauled by WP7200 AZAD, a Broad Gauge 1947-made, steam engine. The steam trains stopped running in India a long time back but this train was started at a fare of just Rs 10 between Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar. The train was revived at Heritage Steam Shed, Rewari and DEMU-Shed, Shakurbasti.
The tour itinerary includes:
1. Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar
2. Farukhnagar and Garhi Harsaru
Apart from this, Railways has also put another heritage steam engine WP 7200 into service. Also called Azad, this engine aims to bring back the magic of steam-hauled trains. The engine hit the tracks in November 2018 for hauling India's oldest iconic luxury tourist train, the Palace on Wheels on a trip from Delhi Safdarjung station to Patel Nagar station.

Meanwhile, IRCTC shares rose 6.4% intraday to Rs 933.5 on BSE on Monday afternoon, after the railway firm's Tejas Express, made a profit of around Rs 70 lakh till the month of October this year while earning revenue of nearly Rs 3.70 crore through sale of tickets. In a span of 21 days, since October 5 when Tejas Express began operations till October 28, the expenditure incurred by IRCTC in running the train was around Rs 3 crore, according to a PTI report.
The train runs between Delhi and Lucknow, and is Railways first attempt of running a train by non-railway operator and its own subsidiary IRCTC.
