Months ahead of General Elections 2019 and several state assembly polls, the Union and state governments of the country have gone on an apparent hiring spree, on a scale never seen in the last five years. Be it Indian Railways, Central PSUs, schools and police, lakhs of jobs are on offer, much to the relief of the scores of unemployed youth in the country.
There are as many as around 3,30,000 posts under different departments and categories to be filled by the end of 2019. In between, General Elections and assembly polls in around 10 states will take place.
The Indian Railways is looking to fill 1,27,000 posts in 2018-19. Around 2.3 crore aspirants are vying for these posts. The posts on offer by the railways include assistant loco pilots, technicians, cabinmen, welders and porters in Group C and D. In 20016-17, Railways had started the hiring process for 18,000 posts.
According to a report by Business Standard, the Central Public Sector Enterprises may offer 25,000 jobs this year. Around 5000 posts may be filled in the oil sector alone, a source told the daily.
Under Make in India, the government has set a target of creating 100 million jobs by 2022.
The report, which was published today, said that around 78,000 teaching posts have opened in as many as 10 states. Of these, 51,000 posts are being offered in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
In Uttar Pradesh, the state government plans to hire 1,00,000 policemen by June next year. Most of these posts will be for constables.
