Karnataka election 2018: Now Rahul Gandhi goes for crowd-funding, looks to raise Rs 28 lakh
Congress has urged people to fund Dr Babu’s campaign in a bid to oust Sriramulu. It’s campaign, shared on Monday, has already raised more than Rs 5,50,000 of the Rs 28,00,000 it aims to raise.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked people in Karnataka to extend their support to Congress’s candidate in Molakalmuru, Dr Yogesh Babu, by crowd-funding his campaign.
“It’s a clear fight in Karnataka. Clean Politics vs Dirty Politics. Mafia vs People. With the BJP fielding the corrupt Reddy gang, we are trying a novel approach to fund our candidate. Support our candidate by making a contribution,” Gandhi tweeted. Dr Babu is pitched against the BJP’s Sriramulu, a close confidante of mining baron Janardhan Reddy.

On the petitions page, the party has pitched Dr Babu as a self-made grassroots man who must take on Sriramulu, who has deep pockets. “.. a 33-year-old Ph.D. scholar, Dr. Yogesh Babu is willing to challenge the ‘mafia’. A self-made man, Babu hails from Molakalmuru, where he actively took part in grass-roots politics and is deeply admired by his people for his sincerity and clean politics (sic),” says the petition.
