Kesari box office collection: Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer has proved itself to be a a really fine family entertainer and after a terrific start at the box office, is now inching towards the Rs 150 crore mark. The film continues to be steady even in its third week and earned Rs 95 lakh on Thursday, taking its overall collection to Rs 147.21 crore. With no big releases this week, the film has a few more days to add to that total before Karan Johar's multi-starrer period drama Kalank hits the big screens. "#Kesari is steady... Has few more days to add to the total, till #Kalank arrives [on Wed]... [Week 3] Fri 1.65 cr, Sat 2.62 cr, Sun 3.23 cr, Mon 1.20 cr, Tue 1.02 cr, Wed 1.02 cr, Thu 95 lakhs. Total: ₹ 147.21 cr. India biz," movie critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Friday afternoon.
Based of the battle of Saragarhi, Kesari had opened to a Rs 21.06 crore day 1. Positive word of mouth and less competition at the box office, helped the Akshay Kumar starrer to earn big and it has raked in Rs 147.21 crore so far. The film became fastest to breach Rs 100 crore mark in 2019 and is now the third highest earner of the year, only behind Total Dhamaal and Uri: The Surgical Strike.
Kalank which releases on April 17 faces its own set of challenges with other big releases on its either side. The long-awaited Avengers: Endgame is releasing on April 26 and a large part of Kalank's opening collection will have to come before that. With big names like Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in the cast, the film promises to do well.

In a recent interview, Varun Dhawan also admitted that Kalank is releasing at a time where there is a constant flow of films, both before and after. But, the actor seems hopeful and believes there are enough screens in the country to accommodate two big films together. He said that the Kalank team would like to make as much money as possible before Endgame releases.
Avengers: Infinity War had smashed many records in India last year. As many as 20 lakh tickets of the film were sold even before it was released in the country. It had earned over Rs 120 crore at the domestic box office in its opening weekend alone. Endgame would look to better that performance when it releases later this month.
