In its Lok Sabha election manifesto, BJP set targets to complete various projects by 2022, when India will celebrate Platinum Jubilee (completion of 75 years) of its Independence. The manifesto focused on projects in Railways, agriculture, infrastructure, and health, among others. Prime Minister has mentioned about these targets in his various speeches.
The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has already worked on these projects. PM Narendra Modi set a target for pucca house for every family, LPG cylinder for the poor, 100 per cent electrification for households, bank accounts for every citizen, toilets, safe drinking water, and doubling the length of highways by this date. A number of these projects have already been taken up, but the government want to increase the pace of work and reach. Here are some of the schemes with a completion target of 2022:
Pucca house for every family: The Prime Minister has emphasised that every household should have a pucca house. He has mentioned this in his various speeches. In BJP manifesto too, the party has set the target of having pucca houses for every family across the country by 2022.
LPG cyllinder for the poor: The party has said in its manifesto that every household should have LPG connection at their home by 2022. The government has already worked on this scheme and seen success.
100% electrification for households: The manifesto says that by 2022, there will be 100 per cent electrification for households. This has been the priority of the government since it came to power in 2014.
Bank accounts for every citizen: The Narendra Modi-led government has put a lot of emphasis on bank account for every citizen. For this purpose, the government announced Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in 2014, right after coming to power. The poor now can open a zero balance account without any maintenance cost.
Toilets for every household: Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project Swachh Bharat, the government took initiatives to provide toilets to all citizens. By 2022, the government wants the country to be open defecation free.
Safe drinking water: Safe drinking water for every citizen has also been the government's priority. The BJP manifesto said that the government would strive to provide safe drinking water for every citizen by 2022.
Doubling the length of highways: Road has always been the priority for the NDA government. Earlier, the government had set the daily target for construction of national highways. BJP manifesto says that the government will be doubling the length of highways from the present level by 2022.
