Motor Vehicle Act new traffic rules: A scooty rider in Gurugram was fined a hefty penalty of Rs 23,000 on Monday. The fine is massive and considering that his scooty is worth just Rs 15,000, it gives the entire episode an outlandish feel! However, this massive fine was slapped on the scooty rider for the mistakes that he made when he took the vehicle out. In fact, he made 3 cardinal errors that opened his case up to penalties.

The man named Dinesh Madan was booked under the recently amended Motor Vehicle law that came into effect on September 1. Under the new rules, the penalties for traffic violations have been hiked manifold. Madan was fined Rs 5,000 for driving without licence, Rs 5,000 for not carrying the Registration Certificate, Rs 2,000 for driving without insurance, Rs 10,000 for violating pollution laws and Rs 1,000 for driving without helmet. The total fines under traffic rules' violation was Rs 23,000!
Madan refused to hand over the keys of his scooty to the traffic police officers and they immediately printed a challan of Rs 23,000 and seized the vehicle.
Madan said that his scooter is worth around Rs 15,000. He complained that the officers were in a big hurry to issue the challan and did not even wait for him to show the papers on WhatsApp, which he asked his kin at home to send.
However, a clearly remorseful Madan promised to carry all the documents from next time onward, but he wants Traffic Police authorities to reduce the hefty fines.
As the new traffic rules are effective from September 1, 2019, under the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019, stringent provisions have been laid down by the government to ensure safety on the roads. A violator may have to pay as much as Rs 25,000 penalty under the new traffic rule.
From over-speeding to without helmet and from without license to drink and drive, every traffic offence penalty has been mutiplied manifolds, to ensure safety of people while driving or walking on roads.

1. Speeding Rs. 1,000- Rs. 2,000.
2. Driving without insurance Rs. 2,000
3. Driving without helmets Rs. 1,000. Plus, 3-month suspension of licence.
4. Driving without licence Rs. 5,000.
5. Driving despite disqualification Rs. 10,000.
6. Driving without a seat-belt Rs. 1,000.
7. Use of cell phone while driving Rs. 1,000-5,000.
7. Drunk driving Rs. 10,000.
9. For not giving way to emergency vehicles like ambulance Rs. 10,000.
Earlier, teh penalties for these traffic violations was anything between Rs 100 to Rs 2000.
