Peak streaming time for Indian viewers at 5pm, says Netflix
Netflix, which allows its viewers to watch exclusive content and reruns of old serials online has published a report on data consumption patterns. From comparing patterns around the world Netflix has formed a 'schedule' much like the old TV guides but these dictate what viewers want to watch at those times.
Key Highlights
- Indians peak time viewership on Netflix is 5pm.
- Nearly 34% viewers watch comedy content on Netflix at breakfast.
- 27% viewers like to watch thriller content at 9pm.
Netflix, the American based entertainment company has come up with its own schedule based on its viewership patterns around the world. However, the peak times for when Indian viewers tune into Netflix was 5pm.
“We see peak streaming as early as 5PM in India to as late as 10PM in Argentina and Singapore,” Netflix said.
With the TV guides predicting what was going to be on television that day becoming obsolete, Netflix has moulded its schedule as per what viewers were watching at different times in different time zones.
The company said that six months of streaming data has led to 77 million accounts per month.

Beginning the day with comedy, Netflix customers like to wake up with a laugh, the company said.
“While you might not expect popular parodies to stir laughs bright and early, around 6AM members are 34% more likely to watch comedy compared to the rest of the day, with the new comedy wake-up block including the likes of Michael Scott (The Office), Kimmy Schmidt (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Chandler Bing (Friends), to name a few,” Netflix said.
During lunchtime Netflix witnessed typical ‘drama’ content being watched with programmes like Grey’s Anatomy and Orange is the New Black showing.

At 9pm, Netflix said that the thrillers genre received 27% viewership while from midnight to 6am 15% viewers were interested in educational and learning documentaries.
“When it comes to defining the new ‘rules’ of TV watching, Frank Underwood said it best: ‘If you don’t like how the table is set, turn over the table,’ Netflix added.
