Sensex, Nifty open in green; ITC gains over 1%
The Sensex of the BSE after opening at 31,882.80 points, touched a high of 31,885.17 points and a low of 31,796.73 points.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) on Wednesday opened on a positive note during the morning session of the trade.

On Tuesday, the Sensex closed at 31,710.99 points.
The Sensex is trading at 31,852.54 points, up by 141.55 points or 0.45 per cent.
On the other hand, the broader 51-scrip Nifty at National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened at 9.855.95 points after closing at 9,827.15 points.
The Nifty is trading at 9,857.25 points in the morning.
Top gainers on BSE were - Dr Reddy at Rs 2,754.90 per piece up 1.45%, followed by Cipla at Rs 567.40 per piece (1.43%), Lupin at Rs 1,171 per piece (1.32%), ITC at Rs 288.20 per piece (1.26%) and Sun Pharma at Rs 585.20 per piece (1.24%).
On July 17, the GST Council raised cess rates on cigarettes which will help the government earn Rs 5,000 crore more. Companies that make cigarettes dropped as investors rushed to sell shares. ITC Ltd lost nearly 15% on Tuesday morning as the company saw one of its biggest single-day declines in nearly 25 years.
While losers were - Infosys at Rs 973.70 per piece down 1.19%, followed by ONGC at Rs 160.75 per piece (0.62%), Wipro at Rs 267.50 per piece (0.43%), Hero Motocorp at Rs 3,772.05 per piece (0.36%) and Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,814.05 per piece.
