Carrying your driving licence in the wallet is a pain. It is a nuisance that has to be borne simply on the off chance traffic cops will pull you over. Well, you may just see a new day dawn soon. Centre is all set to amend the Motor Vehicles Rules. This amendment will allow the car owners to carry only the soft copies of their driving licence and vehicle papers. After the amendment, it will be compulsory for the state transport authority to accept soft copies of driving licence, registration certificate, insurance papers and vehicle fitness certificate, reports Times of India. The transport authority earlier did not accept soft version of the car documents. In the next two days, the road transport authority will issue an advisory on this matter.
Also, according to the TOI report, the draft rules will be out soon too that propose truck drivers to mandatorily carry construction material in a "closed body" or "container." Again if they carry construction materials in open bodies, then that should be covered using tarpaulin or other suitable material.
In developed countries, construction materials are generally transported in covered trucks. "Construction material carried in open and uncovered trucks is an environmental concern,” the," a ministry official told TOI.

Again, a fitness test would be carried out once in every two years for the vehicles up to eight years old. The current rule is that such vehicles go under the fitness test once every year. The draft rule also proposes that the new commercial vehicles would not require any fitness test anymore.
The Ministry has also proposed mandatory FASTags, fixing reflective tapes and vehicle tracking system in all National Permit vehicles.
