81 lakh Aadhaar numbers deactivated; Find out status of yours in five steps
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) deactivated 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers till date as per the Aadhaar Life Cycle Management (ALCM) guideline.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has deactivated nearly 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers as per the Section 27 and Section 28 under Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016.
According to Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology P P Chaudhary, “Till date, approximately 81 lakh Aadhaar numbers have been deactivated. The state-, year- and reason-wise data is not maintained by the UIDAI”. He told this to the Rajya Sabha earlier this week.
According India.com report, Chaudhary had said, "Prior to enactment of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, the deactivation (suspension) of Aadhaar numbers was done as per the Aadhaar Life Cycle Management (ALCM) guideline."
In April, the government had made it mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar by July 1. However, this deadline was extended till August 31 now by Income Tax department.
Before you go ahead with linking both the unique IDs, do check if your Aadhaar is still active. This is how you can check in just five simple steps:
1. Log in to UIDAI official website: https://uidai.gov.in.
2. Go to "Aadhaar Services".
3.Under that tab, click on "Verify Aadhaar Number" option. This will take you to a new page
4. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the box given to check validity.
5. If your Aadhaar is valid, you will get a confirmation status on the page.
Last month, Minister of State for Finance, Santosh Kumar Gangwar had said that as on July 27, 2017, a total of 11,44,211 PANs identified and deleted or de-activated in cases where multiple PANs were found allotted to one person.
