Lok Sabha Elections 2019 are set to bring cheers to commuters as casting a vote in the upcoming elections will make them eligible for a discount on the purchase of petrol and diesel. The selected petrol pumps will give a 50 paisa/litre discount on both petrol and diesel if you would show the voting ink mark on your finger on the polling day at the participating petrol pumps of respective constituencies in the whole country, All India Petroleum Dealers Association president Ajay Bansal said on Friday. He further said that the announcement has been made to encourage voting for a successful democracy and incentivise people to exercise their valuable votes.
Earlier the decision was taken for Delhi, but later association heads of 24 states, in a meeting passed a resolution to offer discount across the country at participating petrol pumps, added Bansal. The discount will be available from 8 am to 8 pm on the polling day at the participating petrol pumps. In order to avail the discounts, customers would require to show the voting ink mark on their fingers to prove they have cast their votes. While the customers would also be needed to provide their name and mobile number to the pump attendant.
The petrol pumps will be promoting the offer by distributing pamphlets and other campaign materials. The participating petrol pump dealers will compensate for the discount from their dealer commissions. The loss or burden of discounts will be borne by dealers, not the oil companies.
Also, it is important to note that the customers can avail the discount for a maximum of 20 litres of fuel on voting day, and according to Bansal, at least 90 per cent of (58,000) dealer-members of the association will participate in the campaign. There are about 64,000 petrol pumps in India, with two per cent of pumps in rural areas.
The Lok Sabha elections 2019 are scheduled to be held in seven phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Results will be announced on May 23.
