Weather update today: Monsoon fury lashes Kerala, schools declare a holiday in some parts
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur for Monday and Kannur and Kasaragod for Tuesday, ie: July 23.
On account of the heavy rains in Kerala, all educational institutions in Kannur, including professional colleges, have declared holiday on Monday (July 22). Kannur District Collector made the announcement stating that no change will be made in the university exam schedule. However, for July 22 Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kasaragod. For July 23, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are been highlighted for an orange alert. For July 24, the districts of Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod have been issued Orange alert
As per ANI report, educational institutions in Kannur, Kasargod and parts of Kottayam due to heavy rainfall in the state have declared a holiday.
District Collector declared a holiday in Kottayam, for all educational institutions, barring professional colleges in Kottayam town, Arpookara, Aymanam, Thiruvarpu and Kumarakom panchayats.
Other reports say, In Thiruvananthapuram, only St Mary’s Lower Primary school in Vettukad has been declared for holiday, else no other academic institution is on holiday.
As per Skymet report, "The state of Kerala is being lashed by heavy to very heavy rains for the last three days- July 19 onward. As of now, the activity is more in the northern and the central parts of the state compared to the southern region. Idukki, Kasargod, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kozhikode are already on red alert due to torrential rains."
Reportedly, In the past 24 hours, Alappuzha, Kannur, Kochi, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Punalur, and Thiruvananthapuram recorded 65.8 mm, 67.7 mm, 99.2 mm, 38.4 mm, 70.2 mm, 23.4 mm, and 15.3 mm of rains, respectively.
