Wow! This Indian Railways world-class pantry car is set to hit tracks soon
Built at the cost of Rs 2 crore, the new Indian Railways pantry car is all set to amaze you. For the first time, the MCF has manufactured LBC Hot Buffet Pantry Car in its factory.
Indian Railways and its catering arm Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation have been working hard to win commuters' confidence back when it comes to onboard food quality. The conditions and cleanliness of the pantry cars have also been under scanner. However, the Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli is all set to change these notions with its new offering.
Built at the cost of Rs 2 crore, the new pantry car is all set to amaze you. For the first time, the MCF has manufactured LBC Hot Buffet Pantry Car in its factory. This modern pantry car is full of many facilities. The fully air-conditioned pantry car has fire detection and extinguishing system, Chimney to keep the kitchen smoke-free, stainless steel counters, deep freezer, refrigerator, bottle coolers, hot water boilers, vegetarian and non-vegetarian hot case, smoke-less multi-point electric cooking range, water purifier, wash sink, manager room and storeroom.
Besides these, the coach has 15 berths for the pantry car staffs. The Modern Coach Factory will be manufacturing 17 such pantry coaches by March 31, 2019.
The first coach will be used by Northeast Frontier Railway. Since the coach is fully AC, it's likely to get attached to the Rajdhani Express.

The Indian Railways has been working to improve its catering facilities in recent years. From free food in case of no bill to live video streaming of its kitchen, the railways has been improving its catering services. Recently, it has also increased the penalty amount if a vendor/contractor is found to violate rules. To enable and enforce cashless transaction through POS machines onboard the trains, the IRCTC had also instructed officials of every railway zone to conduct regular checking for availability of the POS machines with the contractors.
