7th Pay Commission: Govt doubles child care allowance for disabled women
Considering huge responsibility on disabled women to raise their children, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) decided to double the child care allowance as per 7th Pay Commission
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday announced the hike in the child care allowance for women employees with disabilities under 7th Pay Commission.
The government, presently, gives allowance of Rs 1500 per month to differenlt-abled female employees for taking care of their new born child as per 7th Pay Commission. However, now, the allowance amount has been doubled to Rs 3,000 per month.
According to the official notification, women with disabilities will get the allowance from the time of the child's birth till the child is two years old. This order will be effective from July 1, 2017.
"It shall be payable for a maximum of two eldest surviving children," DoPT said in the notification.
Moreover, defining the term "disability", the notification read, "Disability means a person having a minimum Disability of 40% as elaborated in Ministry of Welfare's Notification No. 16-18/97-NLI dated 1.6.2001 and amended from time to time."
“The above limit would be automatically raised by 25% every time the Dearness Allowance on the revised pay structure goes up by 50%,” it added.
The centre's decision came in according to the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission which said that as these women have a responsibility of raising their children, therefore, "instead of the factor of 1.5 that we have mostly used for semi-DA indexed allowances, a factor of 2 to Rs 3,000 per month should be fixed."
Union Cabinet on June 28 had approved the implementation of 7th CPC with 34 modifications. However, since then, the central government employees are "upset" as they felt "cheated" by the government's new allowance structure.
