7th Pay Commission: Government forms committee to look into pay hike demand of these 2.5 lakh employees

7th Pay Commission: Many state government employees have been protesting against their respective governments, demanding pay hike as per the recommendations of the 7th pay commission for the last two years. While the central staffers have been getting their pay as per the 7th CPC, many sections of state government employees have been waiting to get a pay hike. Now, those who are making their demands heard to the top of the government are employees of Gujarat state government. 

Over 2.5 lakh employees of the state government have taken to the roads, demanding the removal of pay disparity and implementation of the 7th pay commission benefits.

The employees include over 45,000 employees of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation and over two lakh teachers. The state police detained over 250 teachers on Friday during their protest near the legislative assembly.

The teachers have been at loggerheads with the government over their demands. They want the implementation of the old pension scheme, separate grade pay for primary teachers, exemption from the compulsory clearing of computer exams and consideration of fix-pay service period of five years for determining seniority and promotions.

The demands of the GSRTC employees include implementation of the 7th pay commission, no sell of GSRTC land for development of depot on PPP model and ban on the services of private buses.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani acted swiftly as the protestors gheraoed the state assembly on Friday. He has constituted a three-member ministerial committee to talk to the agitating employees. Deputy CM Nitin Patel, Agriculture Minister RC Faldu and Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama are the members of the committee.

The GSRTC strike had thrown over 7,000 buses off road and had crippled the public transportation services in the state.
