Ola welcomes SC ruling on diesel cab
The court said the government will frame necessary rules backing its order and phasing out of diesel cabs.
Web-based taxi aggregator Ola on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court`s decision to allow diesel cabs to operate in the national capital region till the expiry of their permits.
"We are thankful to the Supreme Court and the Government for taking into consideration the threat to the livelihoods of thousands of drivers and allowing them to operate within the current framework," an official spokesperson of Ola said in a statement.
"We welcome the decision of the apex court. The proposed phased roll out by EPCA (Environment Pollution Control Authority) and the government will help salvage the livelihoods of tens of thousands of drivers in Delhi NCR," it added.
The apex court in its order said that permits will be renewed subject to an undertaking that they will no more operate their cabs from point-to-point in the NCR.
Having said this, the court said the government will frame necessary rules backing its order and phasing out of diesel cabs. The court said this modifying its earlier April 30 order.
