If you often lose your keys, then Apple iPhone will bring you relief soon. Apple is reportedly working on an iOS update that would allow iPhone users to unlock their front door without keys. The smartphone maker has reportedly been testing the feature since 2014. A number of buildings on Apple campus are secured with an iPhone-compatible lock, a report said.

The new built-in solution would use a Near-Field Communication (NFC) chip. NFC has been included in iPhones, according to a Daily Mail Online report. NFC enables transfer of data over short distances. Through NFC one can send pictures and videos between devices, and authenticate door locks. It is also more secure than Bluetooth, the report said.

Apple restricts the NFC chip in its phones to card payments via Apple Pay and Apple is likely to open up the functionality to third-party manufacturers feature at its annual developer conference in San Jose, California next month, it said. The feature will be available in iPhone 6 or latest versions. Apple will announce new feature on June 4. However, it was unclear whether unlocking doors will be secured via a fingerprint or facial scan.  The new NFC features are scheduled to launch alongside the next major iPhone operating system update, dubbed iOS 12.  Apple might also bring improvements in the iPhone and iPad.

The report suggests that Apple might bring FaceTime video and audio calls, and more Animoji characters for the iPhone X.
