- Apple on Tuesday marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone by launching the iPhone X
- In India the iPhone X will be priced at a steep Rs 89,000
- Huge price difference to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus which is priced at Rs 65,900
Cupertino-based tech giant Apple on Tuesday marked the 10th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone by launching the iPhone X. This was highlight of the Apple launch event and even to some extent overshadowed the launch of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
While the iPhone 8 was launched for a price of $699 and iPhone 8 Plus for $799, the iPhone X with more advanced features came at a price of $999 (about Rs 64,000).
However, in India the iPhone X will be priced at a steep Rs 89,000 and will be on sale in the country from November 3, along with the US and China, according to an Economic Times report.
Though the iPhone X comes with an edge-to-edge screen called the Super Retina HD display, it seems to be much similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus which come with the larger infinity display.
This seems to be the newest innovation in the smartphone space, where the display occupies virtually the entire surface of smartphone. Samsung was the first to this with its 'Infinity display' launched with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, and bringing the same in innovation to the recently launched Galaxy Note 8
In fact, if the iPhone X is launched in India it Rs 89,000, it will be a huge price difference to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus which are priced at Rs 57,900 and 65,900. That is a huge difference in the price of Rs 31,100 compared to the Galaxy S8 and Rs 23,100 in comparison to the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Since the Apple iPhone X is more superior variant, it can be compared to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus in terms of the specifications.
While the Apple iPhone X has an edge-to-edge display it is only 5.8 inches, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a much larger 6.2 inch display infinity display.
In fact, the resolution of the Apple iPhone X is a little lower in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The iPhone X comes with a HDR display which has a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels, while the Galaxy S8 Plus has Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels.
Both have 3D touch capabilities and support wide colours. While the iPhone X is IP67 water resistant and dust resistant, but the Galaxy S8 Plus is a bit higher with IP68 water and dust resistance which is better.
Besides this, the iPhone X comes with a 3GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory. It also has a 256 GB internal memory variant, which would be priced much higher.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus offers a much higher 6GB RAM and 128GB internal memory.
In terms of the processor, both come are similar with the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus sporting the 64-bit Exynos 8895 octa-core processor and Apple iPhone X comes along with the 64-bit A11 Bionic chip.
Even the camera capabilities of the two are very much similar. While the iPhone X sports a dual-camera setup with two 12 megapixel cameras at the rear and a 7 megapixel front camera. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a dual-camera setup at the rear both with 12 megapixel sensors and the front camera is a 8 megapixel camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus also has a higher battery capacity with 3,500mAh battery. While the Apple claims that the iPhone X has a battery life of up to 21 hours in talk time and 12 hours in internet use. Apple says the battery life of the iPhone X is 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7.
The top feature of the iPhone X is the FaceID which is a face recognition sensor which unlocks the phone by scanning the users face. However, this feature too has received bad feedback and to Apple's embarrassment failed to even function during the demo at the Apple event when its software chief, Craig Federighi came on stage.
In all the Apple iPhone X has to be more competitively priced to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus when launched in India, or may find fewer buyers considering that the Galaxy S8 Plus is much superior in terms of its specifications.
