Future Apple smartphones, Macs to have environmental sensors

What if your smartphone could warn you about the levels of pollution or toxic gases around you? Well, Apple's next granted patent might just make it possible. According to the Patently Apple's blog, the smartphone manufacturing company had applied for patent for 'electronic devices with environmental sensors' in the year 2015. 

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office finally granted Apple the patent, that will be added to future iDevices and Macs. This idea by Apple aims to detect and sense deadly gas, surrounding temperature, humidity smoke and more around oneself. 

The patent specifically emphasizes on the gas sensor, to which the Apple patent states, " a gas sensor attached to the printed circuit that is configured to measure a concentration of a gas, wherein the gas comprises a gas selected from the group consisting of: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, alcohol vapor, propane, ozone, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, benzene, methane, hydrogen, and oxygen."

The new sensors might be positioned in the iPhone's speaker or microphone cavities. 

Apple, for the record, has been working on this project and several projects pertaining to environmental sensors. It will be interesting to see how the execution goes.
