Amazon stated that, in its second year in India, Prime Day will be bigger than last year with 36-hours of shopping & entertainment. Building on the success of new product launches last year, Prime Day this year will feature over 200 exclusive new product launches from top brands, small businesses & Indian startups, all available first exclusively to Prime members. Guess what! Under this Amazon Prime Day, one can get good deals on consumer-related products offered by big FMCG firms.
You can buy FMCG products on Amazon’s Prime Day. It is going to offer the best deals on staples, grocery, food, beauty, personal care, baby care, detergent, home care. All the products will be branded, said Saurabh Srivastava, director, category management (FMCG), at Amazon India.
It is going to offer discounts on value-added products from companies like Marico, Britania and Parle. Varun Berry, Managing director, Britania told ET “we will offer discounts on developmental, premium and niche products.”
“It helps them (Amazon) because of the profile of consumers they focus on, and it helps us get trials,” added Varun.
Nivea, kaya and saffola oats are going to offer 50% discount for 36 hours exclusively available to Amazon Prime members. 45% off on diapers and 70% on protein supplements.
“People associate Prime Day for best deals on mobiles and electronics. While that will remain, FMCG is one category where consumers can engage with us on a daily basis,” Srivastava said.
Many other famous and trustable brands like Colgate, Royal Canin, Ariel Matic will offer deals and Nestle, L’Oreal and Nivea is going to launch their exclusive products. “Apart from outright discounts, we will also offer Rs 2,600 cashback through the year to consumers who purchase FMCG products of more than Rs 1,000,” said Srivastava.
“Amazon is trying to attract buyers for everyday items such as salt, sugar and pulses, which till now has been the domain of online grocers Big Basket and Grofers,” the chief of a leading food company told ET.
Amazon also introduced its own brand Vedaka recently which sells pulses. It is going to offer high discounts on its own brands. It also holds brands in nuts, floor cleaners, kitchen paper and aluminium foils.
Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder of Grofers.com said that Amazon may reach out to FMCG companies to support sales but FMCG companies will not allow deep discounting since that will disrupt their pricing structure and they can’t sell at a loss. Also, Grofers will continue with its strategy of everyday low pricing.”

India is a fastest growing market with about 10 million prime subscribers of Amazon out of 100 million total subscribers. India has doubled its subscribers in the last 12 months.
