Reliance Lyf is already the fifth largest smartphone brand in India
According to Karthik J, Senior Market Analyst, Client Devices, “Shipments of key Indian vendors Micromax, Intex and Lava put together dropped 20.4% sequentially as they struggled to push their inventories into the market. On the other hand, new entrants like Reliance Jio grew sharply over previous quarter as they prepare before the official launch."
Not only in the 4G market but Reliance smartphone brand--Lyf--has already disrupted the market. The company displaced Lava and became the fifth largest smartphone vendor in the India between January to March 2016.
International Data Corporation (IDC), in a statement said, "Reliance Jio replaced Lava as the fifth largest smartphone vendor with huge shipments of 4G devices. Jio shipments are expected to grow in the coming quarters owing to launch of its service offerings."
Does this mean Lyf will surpass other major smartphones in India? likely so.
According to Karthik J, Senior Market Analyst, Client Devices, “Shipments of key Indian vendors Micromax, Intex and Lava put together dropped 20.4% sequentially as they struggled to push their inventories into the market. 4G based smartphones shipments clocked 15.4 million units in Q1 2016, which has grown more than 6 times over the same period last year, IDC said.
At the moment, Samsung is the only brand that continues its strong sales in India.
IDC said that over one in four smartphones sold in India between January to March period was a Samsung phone.
Jaipal Singh, Market Analyst, Client Devices says, “4G based device shipments accounted for 65.5% of overall smartphone shipments in first quarter of 2016 driven primarily by Samsung’s J-series models.
This sharp rise in the share of 4G smartphone is due to the cohesive move from the entire ecosystem”.
Samsung continues to lead the 4G smartphone market followed by Lenovo and Reliance Jio.
Reliance Industries is gearing to launch its 4G services in India soon and has already pumped in $22 billion in Reliance Jio for the same. The company introduced 'Lyf' brand smartphones in the market earlier this year.
