Political debate over Britain’s exit from EU may have far reaching effects, but none were thought of as threatening the existence of popular TV show, Game of Thrones.
A report by Independent stated that if UK votes to leave the EU on Thursday it will take Northern Ireland with it - the main production base for HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones with all its elaborate productions is incredibly costly to produce.
It is also funded by the EU’s European Regional Development Fund, which is designed to stimulate economic growth across the EU, the report added.
Along with being thoroughly gripping and entertaining, the series creates thousands of jobs in Northern Ireland and Spain.
Continuity issues due to Brexit may arise for the series, as many of the ‘Westeros’ scenes are shot in another country, the report said.
Further the report highlighted that the British exit from the 28 member state would affect the financing for other popular TV shows.
In an interview with a senior official at the German Marshall Fund of the United States’ Brussels office, Peter Chase was asked by Independent if Brexit would put financing for shows like Game of Thrones at risk.
To which his answer was yes.
The decision may be up to the US studious who want to film in the U.K.
EU programs are available to help fund these series but if the U.K. is no longer part of the EU, then those shows may also go away, Peter Chase stated.
