This was not a good day for the Maharaja! As many as 23 Air India flights were reportedly delayed after a technical glitch in the check-in software hampered operations across its network including at IGI Airport in Delhi today leaving thousands of flyers stranded. Air India flights were delayed due to the software glitch by anything between 15-30 minutes, the national carrier's spokesperson revealed.
The software glitch affected operations from 1 PM to 2.30 PM and during this hours check-in and other services were handled manually, the spokesperson said. Global airlines IT services solution major SITA manages Air India's software solution, which provides its check-in, boarding and baggage tracking technology.
In another development, the airline unveiled its revamped premium-class to woo customers on international routes and increase revenue. The airline has revamped its services on certain flights on international routes and also introduced new uniforms for the crew and cuisine. This development came a week after the government decided to put on hold its disinvestment plans.
The airline is expecting revenue growth of Rs 6.5 crore per day from the existing Rs 4 crore from these premium classes after it revamped services. Air India has 17% market share on international routes and over 2,500 prime-time slots per week across 43 overseas destinations.
