Volkswagen to recall 3.4 lakh cars in India
This recall will be to replace the defeat device for emission norms that was placed in some of the cars earlier.
Volkswagen will recall 3.4 lakh of its cars in India from as many as 13 models. This is as per the global recall to replace the cheat software that had helped it passed the emission tests and had created a huge controversy across the globe.
The cars with EA 189 diesel engines in India that qualify for technical updates is approximately 3,43,800, a company spokesperson was quoted saying in a Mint report.
The cars to be recalled include Volkswagen Polo, Vento, Jetta, Passat, Skoda Fabia, Skoda Yeti and sedans such as Skoda Rapid, Skoda Laura and Skoda Superb. It also includes the recall of Audi's A4 and A6 sedans and the Q3 and Q5 SUVs.
There is however no clarity on the timeframe of when the recalls will be completed. The VW spokesperson further said that it would be difficult to say by when the process will be completed.
The company said that it has the technology in its global portfolio that can be brought to India to meet the highest of the emission norms. This is as India adopts BS-IV emission norms soon.
