7th Pay Commission: Ahead of the election there, on behalf of the BJP, its President Amit Shah, PM Modi and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley had promised during poll campaigning that they would ensure implementation of 7th Pay Commission report for the state government staff if their party was elected to power by the people in the assembly elections.
7th Pay Commission: To the relief of government servants in this state that has just gone to the polls, what the politicians promised, they delivered on as soon as they formed the government. The effect for them would be a hike in salaries. The 7th CPC windfall news comes from Tripura, where PM Narendra Modi's party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, created history by beating the incumbent Left Front government that was ruling for decades under ex chief minister Manik Sarkar. Ahead of the election there, on behalf of the BJP, its President Amit Shah, PM Modi and Union finance minister Arun Jaitley had promised during poll campaigning that they would ensure implementation of 7th Pay Commission report for the state government staff if their party was elected to power by the people in the assembly elections. The public obliged and the new government has rushed to make good on promises made.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb led BJP government in the state has ordered the formation of a committee that would provide the way forward for the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission report. BJP government in Trpira took this decision at the council of ministers meeting in Agartala - this was its first meeting. This was revealed by CM Deb himself, indicating that he was very much in favour of providing relief to government staff and that too quickly.
For those who did not know, the BJP manifesto had vowed that the 7th Pay Commission implementation order would be given at the first meeting of the cabinet. BJP has come to power in alliance with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) party. The number of employees on government rolls in Tripura may not be large, but the fact is that the state exchequer would nevertheless have to carry the burden of the funds outgo even as the economy is not in the best of health
That the burden can be heavy is made clear from the fact that Maharashtra finance minister, just days ago, had cited in his Budget speech in assembly, the fact that teh seventh pay commission funds outgo will hang heavy on the state defivit. However, the biggest reason for the same was the farm loan waiver. According to sources, the 7th Pay Commission outgo there would be as high as Rs 23,000 cr and the government had earmarked as much as Rs 10,000 cr for this fiscal.
