Aadhaar Card for Child: UIDAI guidelines that parents of Baal Aadhaar Card holders must know
Baal Aadhaar Card: Parents can use your child's (aged above 5 years) school ID (Photo ID issued by Recognized Educational Institution) for Baal Aadhaar enrolment.
Aadhaar Card for Child: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made it clear that for children below 5 years of age, their scholl ID will be considered a valid ID for Aadhaar enrolment. It also made it clear to the parents of Blue Aadhaar Card holders that to remember updating biometric Aadhaar Card data of one's child after 5 years and 15 years. The UIDAI has also clarified that Blue Aadhaar Card or 'Baal Aadhaar' can only be used up to the age of 5, after which it becomes invalid. A mandatory biometric update is required to reactivate the child's Aadhaar.

The UIDAI made these announcements through its official twitter handle citing, "Blue colured ‘Baal Aadhaar’ can only be used up to the age of 5, after which it becomes invalid. A mandatory biometric update is required to reactivate the child's Aadhaar."

In another tweet the UIDAI said, "You can use your child's (aged above 5 years) school ID (Photo ID issued by Recognized Educational Institution) for his or her Aadhaar enrolment."
Reminding about the mandatory biometric Aadhaar Card data updation, the UIDAI informed citing, "Remember to update biometric Aadhaar data of your child at the age of 5 years and then again at the age of 15 years. This mandatory biometric update for children is FREE." Elaborating upon as to why this biometric Aadhaar card data is mandatory, the UIDAI cleared citing, "Biometrics are not developed for children before 5 years of age. Hence, a child's Aadhaar data does not include biometric info like fingerprints and Iris scan. Once the child crosses 5, biometrics need to be updated."

On now to make Baal Aadhaar enrolment the UIDAI tweet read, "Your Aadhaar along with the child's birth certificate or the discharge slip you received from hospital is enough to enroll your child for Aadhaar. For list of other documents that you can use for the child's enrolment." The UIDAI also made it clear that everyone can enrol for Aadhaar - even a newborn child. All you need is the child's birth certificate and Aadhaar of one of the parents.
