Ashadhi Ekadashi: Mumbai dabbawalas on 2-day leave for Pandharpur pilgrimage

In a bid to participate in annual Pandharpur pilgrimage to celebrate 'Ashadhi Ekadashi', the Mumbai dabbawalas have decided to go on a two-day leave from July 12. As a result of this, there will be no tiffin services available for Mumbaikars from the globally acclaimed Mumbai dabbawalas. After two days of pilgrimage, the Mumbai dabbawala services will resume on July 14th i.e. from Sunday.

Informing about the two days leave Subhash Talekar, President at Mumbai Dabbawala Association said, "The tiffin services will be halted on July 12 and July 13." Subhash Talekar also informed that the Mumbai dabbawalas will offer prayers to Lord Gyaneshwar on Friday and then proceed to pay homage at Pandharpur. Pandharpur pilgrimage is considered one of the most auspicious pilgrimages in Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too paid prayers at the Vitthal Temple in Pandharpur in the early morning on July 12th.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the people of Maharashtra by tweeting a congratulatory message that read Pandharpur and how it connects with the Ashadhi Ekadashi. "The beautiful town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra has a special link with Ashadhi Ekadashi. Know more in this video," tweeted PM Modi alongside a video that featured pilgrims paying homage at he Vitthal Temple in Pandharpur. People across India pay homage to the Lord Vishnu on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi and observe fast as well.
