The government has allocated Rs 93000 cr on the education sector for the financial year 2020-21 (April-March) in Budget 2020. The announcement was made by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitrharaman during her Budget 2020 speech. The government has also allocated another Rs 3000 cr on skill development towards the Skill Development Mission in order to upgrade the skills of the people in line with the requirements of the job. The finance minister in the Budget announcement said that the New Education Policy will be announced soon. The finance minister said that the government would take steps to get External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) and Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
The Finance Minister said that 150 higher education institutions will start apprenticeship embedded degree, diploma courses by March 2021. The 150 higher institutes will start apprentice training for General category students. The government also proposed to start a programme way by urban local bodies across the country that would provide internships opportunities to fresh engineers for a period of one year.
The government also proposed to start a full-fledged degree level online education program to provide quality education programmes to the students of deprived sections of the society and those who do not have access to education.
