Income Tax offices to remain open till mid-night on August 5

In order to facilitate smooth filing of income tax returns, all income tax offices will remain open till mid-night on August 5, 2017. 

Ministry of Finance, in a statement said "In view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers, the due date for filing of Income Tax Returns for F.Y. 2016-2017 i.e. A.Y. 2017-2018 was extended to 5 th August, 2017(for
certain categories of taxpayers). In order to facilitate manual filing of returns(of aforesaid categories) on 5 th August, 2017, being a Saturday, the Central Board of Direct Taxes has directed that necessary arrangements be made for receiving Income Tax Returns upto midnight in all Income Tax Offices throughout the country."

The last date of filing income tax returns earlier was July 31, 2017 which was then revised to August 5, 2017 as income tax website crashed and threw up errors for tax filers on the last day.
