3. The United States of America (USA), was the highest contributor of foreign tourists at 15.01% during January this year, which was followed by Bangladesh at 14.91% and United Kingdom (UK) at 11.11%
India recorded nearly 17% rise in the foreign tourist arrival into the country on January this year.
The number of foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) during the month were 9.83 lakh as compared to foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) of 8.44 lakh in January last year.
"For the month of January 2017, a growth of 16.5% is observed as compared to January 2016, surpassing the previous year’s corresponding growth of 6.8% observed in January 2016 over January 2015," cited the Ministry of Tourism in an official statement on Friday.
Among the top 15 source countries, the United States of America (USA), was the highest contributor of foreign tourists at 15.01% during the month, which was followed by Bangladesh at 14.91% and the United Kingdom (UK) at 11.11%.

During January this year, Delhi Airport was among the top 15 ports that recorded the highest growth of foreign tourists arrivals into the country at 28.30%, which was followed by Mumbai Airport at 18.23% and Haridaspur Land checkpost at 8.17%.
Similarly, the country witnessed a 72% growth on the foreign tourists arrived on its e-Visa facility.
A total of 1.52 lakh tourist arrived on e-Visa in January this year as compared to 0.88 lakh during January last year.
" ..The share of tourists availing e-Visa facility in January 2017 has reached a level of 15.5% as against 10.4% in the month of January 2016," Ministry of Tourism said in a statement.
Countries like UK (22.9%), USA (13.6%), Russian Fed (8.3%), were among the top 15 source countries which availed the e-Visa facilities during January this year.
The New Delhi Airport (36.5%) was the top 15 ports that registered the highest tourist arrivals on e-Visa facility during the month, which was followed by Mumbai Airport at 20.5% and Dabolim (Goa) Airport at 16.2%.
